The same PlotDirector. Less browser.

PlotDirector Desktop opens in a dedicated application window. It gives your workspace more room, puts relevant page controls in the contextual ribbon and offers right-click actions for scenes, chapters, characters and other objects. Hold Ctrl while right-clicking to open the browser's own menu.

Your projects and data are the same. There is nothing to move or transfer, and updates arrive through PlotDirector without a traditional software update cycle. An internet connection is still required. Browser use remains fully available.

Install or compare

In the account menu, choose PlotDirector Desktop to reopen the genuine Browser/Desktop comparison, then choose Install PlotDirector Desktop. When available, this opens your browser's own installation prompt. Otherwise it shows instructions for your browser.

• Chrome desktop: ⋮ → Cast, save, and share → Install page as app… The address bar may also offer an install icon.
• Edge desktop: … → More tools → Apps → Install this site as an app.
• Safari on macOS Sonoma or later: File → Add to Dock → Add.
• iPhone or iPad: in Safari, Share → Add to Home Screen. Enable Open as Web App if offered, then Add.
• Android: use the browser menu's Install app or Add to Home screen option if offered.

Menu names and availability vary by browser version, operating system and organisation policy. Private browsing may prevent installation. If no installation option is available, try current Chrome or Edge on desktop. Other browsers can continue using PlotDirector normally; a programmatic install prompt is not available everywhere.

If PlotDirector is already installed, open it from your Start menu, taskbar, Dock or application launcher. A browser tab cannot reliably detect every existing installation. Cancelling a prompt does not install the app.

Your choice

Choose Continue in browser, the close button or Escape to dismiss the comparison. Automatic promotion is reserved for project workspaces with a book. Dismissal is saved for this account in this browser on this device. After 30 days a small reminder may offer Compare; the full takeover does not repeat automatically. The account-menu entry remains available in browser mode. Clearing browser storage resets these preferences.

The installed app never shows its own install promotion.
