Keep proposed scene arrangements separate from the established manuscript, then inspect how a different order would work.

Why this happens
Alternatives answer different questions. Without clear boundaries, a scene may be evaluated against consequences that only exist in another version.
Give each alternative a name that describes its purpose, such as delaying a reveal. It becomes easier to compare effects when you can tell the proposal from a vague collection of recent edits.
What to look for
- Name the question each version tests
- Compare the same turning point across alternatives
- Keep the established arrangement distinct until you choose to adopt a proposal
