Writing problems
A character's details don't stay consistent
A later description seems to disagree with an earlier one. You are searching scattered notes to decide which version of a character's history or appearance you meant to keep.

Characters
The character record gives you a place to settle the intended fact, then revisit linked scenes.
Keep character records together, then open an individual character to review established facts and linked appearances.
Look for The agreed fact, the first passage establishing it and later uses that need to match.

Why this happens
Drafts accumulate provisional details. An intentional change, an unreliable description and an accidental contradiction can look alike until you compare their sources and story positions.
Compare the sources of two conflicting descriptions. A character's mistaken recollection may be intentional; two neutral statements meant as reliable reference may require a different editorial decision.
What to look for
- Locate both statements and who supplies them
- Check whether the detail changes within the story
- Mark which version is established and which remains provisional
