Writing problems

You're not sure where a relationship has reached

You hesitate over whether two people should trust each other, be estranged or behave as though something remains unresolved at this point in the story.

How PlotDirector can help

Start here

Relationship Map

Compare the recorded relationship at selected story positions instead of relying on a single overall label.

See recorded connections at a selected story position. Compare positions to review how states, intensity and each side’s perspective change.

Look for The last clear state, the scene that changes it and later behaviour that assumes a different stage.

PlotDirector Relationship Map showing six characters, their connections and relationship details.
Connections and their recorded states at a chosen story position.

Why this happens

A remembered turning point may not match the draft's current order. State can also differ between the two participants, so a single label may hide uncertainty rather than settle it.

A private reconciliation may change how two people behave together before the wider cast knows about it. Keep their own state separate from what witnesses believe has happened.

What to look for

  • Find the last scene that changed the relationship
  • Compare each person's understanding afterwards
  • Check which later behaviour depends on that change
