Writing problems

A location has changed without you meaning it to

A room, street or building no longer seems to match an earlier description. You may be relying on several mental versions of the setting while writing different scenes.

How PlotDirector can help

Start here

Locations

Use the place’s description and linked scenes as the starting reference for a manual consistency check.

Keep an agreed reference for each place and open its record when checking how it is described or used in scenes.

Look for The intended version of the place and the passages whose details need to agree with it.

Why this happens

Descriptions can change with viewpoint, weather and renovation, but the underlying layout or established features may also drift between drafts. Compare what is actually claimed before treating variation as a contradiction.

A building can feel unfamiliar to a returning character without having changed its layout. Decide whether the discrepancy concerns experience, description or a physical fact that other scenes depend on.

What to look for

  • Locate descriptions that appear incompatible
  • Separate physical features from impressions
  • Check which scenes depend on the disputed layout
