Writing problems

You're losing track of where your characters are

You remember the conversation but not where each participant went afterwards. Later scenes depend on positions that have become difficult to reconstruct.

How PlotDirector can help

Start here

Timeline

Scene locations and character labels let you compare the relevant appearances side by side.

Compare scene order with the dates, times and locations recorded for each scene. Select scenes to inspect the details behind the sequence.

Look for The last known position, the next appearance and any intervening move that has not been accounted for.

Why this happens

An author may know an off-page movement without recording it clearly. That is different from a journey being physically impossible: first establish the last reliable position.

Do not fill every off-page interval merely to make the record complete. First ask whether a later scene requires a precise location or whether the uncertainty can remain harmless.

What to look for

  • Find the last explicit location for each person
  • Identify entries that are inference rather than confirmation
  • Check entrances, exits and off-page intervals
