Project provides the project naming context. Choosing a book can fill blank Locale and Birth year fields using the book's primary locale and story era. Explicit values remain in place, so check them when switching books.
The current-use check relies on project character names and aliases. Do not treat a book selection or a book label in the result as proof that a character appears in that volume. Check scene appearances when that distinction matters.
To browse without book defaults, choose Project, clear Birth year and choose All locales before selecting Search. Changing this control does not move characters between books or alter book settings.
